Here is a country-by-country roundup of the latest news. In the Ukraine, plans are big this summer for junior middleweight contender Zaurbek Baysangurov (20-1, 15 KOs). Last April Baysangurov, coming back from the upset loss to Cornelius ‘K9′ Bundrage in an IBF eliminator for the second spot, forced his opponent Mikheil Khucishvili to retire after the only complete round of fighting. And now it’s time for the real comeback. On May 30 in Kiev, Ukraine, the 24-year-old locally _base_d Russian banger will headline the fourth K2 East tournament this year squaring up to Italian veteran Christian De Martinis (22-2, 10 KOs) for the vacant WBA Intercontinental _title_. If successful against Martinis, Baysangurov will make his overseas debut this August against Contender II successor Grady Brewer (25-11, 14 KOs) for the vacant IBO belt.

“Our country is in need of great sportive achievements. We hope Zaur will defeat his opponent on May 30 and by doing so he will make an exceptional present on the eve of Kiev City Day”, encouraged Vitali Klitschko.

“This February Baysangurov spent a long time at Wild Card Gym honing his skills under the guidance of such a great coach as Freddie Roach. I’m sure his will show us these new tricks against Martinis”, said K2 East general director Alexander Krasyuk....

Russian junior middleweight Zaurbek Baysangurov (now 21-1 with 16 KOs) scored his second consecutive first-round blowout moments ago at Kiev’s Palace of Sports. In the main event of the show, promoted by the K2 East promotional group, Baysangurov, 24, decked his Italian opponent Christian De Martinis (22-3, 10 KOs) once with a body-punch and once with a hard left hook to the head before knocking him down again after a thunderous right hand....

In the main event Avtandil Khurtsidze (18-1-2, 11 KOs) will defend his WBA Inter-Continental middleweight belt in the _title_ bout against 29-year-old Jamel «The Elegant» Bahki (19-2-2, 5 КОs) from Belgium.

Vitali Klitschko: «Ukrainian fans will see three boxing stars who will step into the ring on July 18th in Odessa where with the support of world famous brand «Nemiroff» and «Inter» media-group we will hold a big fight card «Champions' Summer». Those stars are: Avtandil «Tornado» Khurtsidze, Vyacheslav «Steel Power» Uzelkov and Maks «Tiger» Bursak. Khurtsidze will be defending his WBA Inter-Continental middleweight belt for the third time. It is interesting to know that Avtandil won his belt in the same ring in Odessa in June of 2008. Khurtsidze will face a solid opposition in Jamel Bahki who won 19 fights and was defeated two times only».

WBA #4 middleweight Avtandil Khurtsidze (19-1-2, 12 KOs) retained his WBA Intercontinental _title_ for the third time with a convenient win over Belgian Jamel Bahki (19-3, 5 KOs), who lost inside the distance for the first time in the career. The fight was a headliner of the K2 East-promoted show in Odessa, Ukraine. The short and stocky Kiev-_base_d Georgian (5′4”) started to press his opponent from the starting bell, going right to him, using a peek-a-boo _style_ of defense. Longer but weaker Bahki was unable to stop him in his shoes and was often punished in the ropes. In round three, Khurtsidze increased his tempo and put his Belgian foe down with ten seconds remaining in the stanza. Bahki continued to fight back in rounds four and five but was on receiving end of the punches and got beat badly. The Belgian’s corner waved the fight off immediately after the fifth stanza.

Also, world rated Ukrainian light heavyweight stalwart Vyacheskav Uzelkov moved to 21-0, with 13 KOs, after an easy annihilation of hugely overmatched Romanian Istvan Varga (14-8, 5 KOs). ...

Khurtsidze retains _title_; Uzelkov comes back with a KO win!

tournament billed as «Champions’ Summer» which was held in Odessa by «K2 East Promotions» Avtandil Khurtsidze (19-1-2, 12 KOs) successfully defended WBA Inter-Continental middleweight belt in the _title_ bout against 29-year-old Jamel «The Elegant» Bahki (19-3-2, 5 КОs) from Belgium.

Khurtsidze started in his usual aggressive manner pressing his opponent on every square inch of the ring. Much taller Bahki, however, could not establish his jab and absorbed quite a lot of punches helplessly trying to counterpunch. In round 3 Khurtsidze intensified his ferocious attacks using a lot of combinations which landed more and more often on both head and body of the Belgian. At the end of round 3 Avtandil sent Bahki to the canvas but did not manage to stop him since the bell saved the Belgian.

Persistent pressure from Ukrainian _base_d Georgian in round 4 quickly wore down Bahki who in round 5 absorbed punches for about a minute without any attempt of counteroffensive.

Finally Bahki and his corner decided that he had had enough and the Belgian quitted on his stool after round 5.

In the co-event of «Champions’ Summer» fight card Romanian fighter Istvan Varga (14-8, 5 KOs) appeared to be no match for Vyacheslav Uzelkov (21-0, 13 KOs). Uzelkov, WBA Inter-Continental light heavyweight champ clashed against Varga in a tune-up ten-rounder. Uzelkov showed that in spite of 8 months interval in fighting he did not develop any signs of ring-rust. Practically his first power punch – a devastating left hook sent Varga to the canvas.

Romanian fighter stood up and tried to continue but soon a huge right made him to take a knee. He stood up to the count but the ref mercifully stopped the lopsided beating. Now Uzelkov eagerly waits for the results of the negotiations between his team and managers of Gabriel Campillo – Vyacheslav is a mandatory challenger for WBA World light heavyweight _title_ which now decorates waist of Spaniard Gabriel Campillo.

UNDERCARD RESULTS:

Nikita Lukin TKO2 Aleksey Pinchuk
Yuri Voronin TKO2 Khasan Vishnyakov
Alexander Benidze W(UD)6 Mikhail Vinnichenko
Nikolay Israelyan KO1 Vasilyi Chernykh
Valery Brazhnik TKO7 Denis Tupilenko
Ali Adams W(SD)4 Vyacheslav Sherbakov
Siarhei Rabchanko TKO3 Boris Akopov
