Khurtsidze retains _title_; Uzelkov comes back with a KO win!

tournament billed as «Champions’ Summer» which was held in Odessa by «K2 East Promotions» Avtandil Khurtsidze (19-1-2, 12 KOs) successfully defended WBA Inter-Continental middleweight belt in the _title_ bout against 29-year-old Jamel «The Elegant» Bahki (19-3-2, 5 КОs) from Belgium.

Khurtsidze started in his usual aggressive manner pressing his opponent on every square inch of the ring. Much taller Bahki, however, could not establish his jab and absorbed quite a lot of punches helplessly trying to counterpunch. In round 3 Khurtsidze intensified his ferocious attacks using a lot of combinations which landed more and more often on both head and body of the Belgian. At the end of round 3 Avtandil sent Bahki to the canvas but did not manage to stop him since the bell saved the Belgian.

Persistent pressure from Ukrainian _base_d Georgian in round 4 quickly wore down Bahki who in round 5 absorbed punches for about a minute without any attempt of counteroffensive.

Finally Bahki and his corner decided that he had had enough and the Belgian quitted on his stool after round 5.

In the co-event of «Champions’ Summer» fight card Romanian fighter Istvan Varga (14-8, 5 KOs) appeared to be no match for Vyacheslav Uzelkov (21-0, 13 KOs). Uzelkov, WBA Inter-Continental light heavyweight champ clashed against Varga in a tune-up ten-rounder. Uzelkov showed that in spite of 8 months interval in fighting he did not develop any signs of ring-rust. Practically his first power punch – a devastating left hook sent Varga to the canvas.

Romanian fighter stood up and tried to continue but soon a huge right made him to take a knee. He stood up to the count but the ref mercifully stopped the lopsided beating. Now Uzelkov eagerly waits for the results of the negotiations between his team and managers of Gabriel Campillo – Vyacheslav is a mandatory challenger for WBA World light heavyweight _title_ which now decorates waist of Spaniard Gabriel Campillo.

UNDERCARD RESULTS:

Nikita Lukin TKO2 Aleksey Pinchuk
Yuri Voronin TKO2 Khasan Vishnyakov
Alexander Benidze W(UD)6 Mikhail Vinnichenko
Nikolay Israelyan KO1 Vasilyi Chernykh
Valery Brazhnik TKO7 Denis Tupilenko
Ali Adams W(SD)4 Vyacheslav Sherbakov
Siarhei Rabchanko TKO3 Boris Akopov

After being a bloody scene of local conflicts and military activities for more over than fifteen years, Chechen capital Grozny will soon welcome its first major boxing event in almost seventeen years since 1992. Tonight K2 East Promotions, the leading Ukrainian boxing company under the guidance of Klitschko brothers, has proudly announced their next pugilistic tournament, which will take place at “Dynamo” Palace of Sports, Grozny, in just a week, on the 15th of August. Not surprisingly, headlining the show is the WBA #10 and WBC #15 light middleweight Zaurbek Baysangurov (21-1, 16 KOs), 24, the resident of Kiev, Ukraine, and the proud native of Achhoy-Martan, Chechnya.....

Baysangurov shuts out Albert

By Dmitry Mikhalchuk and Alexey Sukachev

Top Russian junior middleweight Zaurbek Baysangurov (WBA #10 and WBC #14) scored one of the biggest wins in his pro career moments ago at Dynamo Palace of Sports in Chechen capital of Grozny, Russia. The Chechen native (now 22-1, 16 KOs) used his usual enforcer-_style_ to outslug and overpower tough but limited Nigerian Eromosele Albert (22-3-1, 10 KOs) over twelve one-sided rounds. Baysangurov, 24, was just too strong and too rugged for his eleven-year older opponent, who found no keys to his foe’s constant pressure. Albert fought on even terms with Zaurbek for the first three rounds but then the Chechen fighter, promoted by K2 East promotions, began to break him down both physically and mentally. The fight turned out to be foul-filled in the latter rounds but referee Mikael Hook deducted no points from the fighters. All three judges’ scorecards were unanimous in favour of the local fighter: 119-109 (twice) and 120-108. Fightnews saw it a bit closer 118-110. With the win Baysangurov, who was embraced by both Wladimir Klitschko and Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov before and after the fight, retained his WBA Intercontinental belt for the first time....

Campillo vs Uzelkov Likely, Eyes Big Future Fights

A heavy underdog among the press and most industry bigwigs, Gabriel Campillo (19-2, 6 KOs) came to Kazakhstan and retained his WBA light heavyweight _title_ with a twelve round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Beibut Shumenov (8-1, 6 KOs).

Campillo's promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing LLC, spoke with BoxingScene.com after the fight was over.

"I am very proud of Campillo. He is the first champion with Sampson Boxing LLC. My other six champions I share with other promoters. We have a mandatory right now with Vyacheslav Uzelkov but that doesn't mean it will be our next fight. If the right opportunity comes along, we will ask the WBA for an exception," Lewkowicz said.

Uzelkov (23-0, 13KOs), who I believe is promoted by K2 East, was a very good amateur. A trivia fact, Uzelkov lost in the amateurs, as a heavyweight, to David Haye in the 2001 World Championships in Belfast. From the three fights I've seen, Uzelkov is a solid pro. He stopped a then undefeated Campillo in 2007.

Universum claims to have fight options on Campillo but has yet to produce any documentation to back that up.

"I challenge Universum to show me any fight option contract with Campillo's signature. My attorney Pat English requested these documents on July 14 and we never heard or received anything from them," Lewkowicz said....

Following his impressive performance against tough Nigerian Eromosele Albert last Saturday, Russian junior middleweight Zaurbek Baysangurov (22-1, 16 KOs) was highly praised by Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov. Baysangurov, who retained his WBA Intercontinental _title_ during his shutout victory, was awarded with new apartments in the centre of Grozny and was also decorated with the highest national honor, i.e. the order of Ahmad Kadyrov, former Chechen president and the late father of Ramzan Kadyrov. The winning fighter, who is promoted by K2 East Promotions, was also given a huge bonus paycheck of $300,000 by Moscow businessmen Ruslan Baysarov. Both Kadyrov and Wladimir Klitschko witnessed Zaurbek’s win at ringside on Saturday night.

«I would like to thank Ramzan Kadyrov, president of the Chechen Republic for his invitation to attend this great sport event. Sport develops perfect qualities in a man and is a good example to follow for youth. That boxing fest was not the first and, of course, not the last in the Chechen Republic. There will be much more in future. We together with my brother Vitali will do everything possible in order that such boxing tournaments will be organized in the Chechen Republic more often. The most important thing is that young boys should look at boxing as an excellent example to follow and that they develop in themselves best qualities of manly character – of real warriors».

Last Saturday August 15th Zaurbek Baysangurov (22-1, 16 KOs) completely outboxed and outpunched Eromosele Albert (22-3-1, 10 KOs) from Nigeria during 12 rounds of a lopsided battle and retained his WBA Inter-Continental light middleweight belt. _title_ clash was the main event of a big boxing tournament billed «The Champ Comes Home».
