Hayemaker Promotions’ aborted TV deal with Setanta Sports has claimed its latest casualties; Derry Matthews and David Price have had to part company with David Haye’s promotion outfit due to an absence of regular TV days.
The Liverpool boxers are both disappointed with this latest turn of events but they had to move on for the good of their own careers. Derry has told The Liverpool Echo that he is sad to be leaving Hayemaker behind.
“It’s a shame but after the TV went the shows dried up. I have left on good terms though and have no issues with anybody at Hayemaker, but I have to look after my own career,” admitted Matthews.
Price won bronze at the Olympics last summer but has only fought once as a pro. David impressed when beating David Ingleby in three rounds back in March.
However, Price needs to be kept active, rival British heavyweight Tyson Fury has had eight fights since turning professional in January and was last night crowned English champion – albeit in controversial circumstances.
Time is of the essence for Price, who needs to get himself a new promoter as soon as possible, or risk being left even further behind over the course of the coming season.
