Aaron Pryor Jr. Extinguishes Dante's Inferno

When Aaron Pryor Jr's original opponent Sammy Sparkman pulled out at the weigh-in it appeared that his hometown debut would have to wait. What came out of the tragedy was a more compelling matchup when 2000 Olympian and fellow Cincinnati-native Dante Craig agreed to step in for Sparkman.

Some felt that Craig would be too big of a step-up for the upstart Pryor, the son of legendary junior-welterweight champion Aaron Pryor Sr. Pryor silenced all of his critics with the 3 round blitzing of Craig.

Although both weighed in as middleweights, the 6'4 Pryor Jr's height advantage over the 6'0 Craig became a huge factor as his long jab kept the shorter knockout artist on the end of his 1-2 combinations. In the second round Pryor began to hurt Craig with his right hand bombs that couldn't miss. The round was easily a 10-8 _frame_ for Pryor.

The onslaught continued into the third round prompting the ref to call a halt to the bout midway through the stanza. Pryor Jr. raised his unbeaten mark to 11-0 (8 KO) while Craig drops to 17-8-1 (13 KO).

"All I do is watch Tommy Hearns all day," said the KRONK team member who bares a physical resemblance to the former welterweight star. "I have Emmanuel Steward with me, who can stop me with him? The energy from here is amazing, I'm glad I could put on a great show in front of my hometown."

"Coaches, coaches, coaches, coaches," Pryor Sr summed up his son's success. "With the best coaches in the world you can't go wrong."

Ricky Hatton will offenbar auch defensives Boxen lernen und arbeitet für seinen nächsten Kampf mit Floyd Mayweather sr. zusammen. Schön, dass es auch noch andere Boxer gibt, die bereit sind zu lernen, und merken, dass zu einem guten Profiboxer mehr gehört, als nur nach vorne marschieren, kassieren und darauf hoffen, den Gegner KO schlagen zu können. Aber zuviel kassieren ist eben nicht gesund und kann die Karriere eines Boxers erheblich verkürzen.

Gute Entscheidung von Ricky Hatton.

Eine faustdicke Überraschung Khan verliert gegen Prescott, jedenfalls für Frank Warren, der im Vorfeld über den Gegner, einen Kolumbianer folgendes geäußert hat: Er sei langsam wie eine Schnecke und würde nur unkontrollierte Heumacher schlagen. So sah das im Kampf aber nicht aus, er war schnell saubere gute Haken, die er perfekt in den Schlag von Khan hineinschlug. So kann es gehen mit der Einschätzung von Gegnern.

Dass Khan keine gute Defensive hat und auch nicht das beste Kinn wusste man im Vorfeld. Schade für Khan, den ich sehr gerne boxen sehe.
