Vitali Klitschko vs Nikolai Valuev
von sunshinetrue Posted at 2008/10/16 05:36
WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has now turned his attention to WBA heavyweight champ Nikolai Valuev. After returning on Saturday from a four-year layoff to capture the WBC _title_ by stopping Sam Peter, Klitschko wants the last remaining _title_ that is not in the hands of his family. Younger brother Wladimir holds the WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight crowns. Valuev, standing at 7'0 and weighing over 300-pounds, is one the few fighters to make the near 6'8 Vitali look small.

"It would be really great if all four _title_s were in the family's hands," said Vitali. "We made our dream a reality. I am unbelievably happy. I am in top form and I see no obstacles to boxing on as a world champion."

Valuev makes a voluntary defense of his _title_ in December. Klitschko must face WBC mandatory Juan Carlos Gomez within 90-days. Valuev told Russian media outlets that would be ready for a fight against Vitali after making his December mandatory.

"That would be a difficult, but interesting fight (against Klitschko)," Valuev Said.

I think Valuev has to face Chagaev first. Unless Chagaev is offered step asside money I don't think this is going to happen.

Although I heard Holyfield was trying to get Valuev fight.

I hope this fight happens.

I read somewhere awhile back that Valuev has by May or June next year to fight Chagaev. But even if Valuev chooses to fight in December voluntarily this leaves him with 5 or 6 months until his mandatory fight. It may be more lucrative for him to face Vitali, especially knowing that it would look better to lose against him plus he may feel there is a possibility he could win and gain another belt.

I would like to see Vitlai fight Lewis next, if Lewis will take the offer.

If not, a match with Valuev, or a re-match with the very lucky Chris Byrd.

Valuev is his best fight-- if he can get it. Lewis isn't going to risk his legacy and come back now. Chris Byrd has fought nobody at heavyweight since dropping weight and losing badly at light heavyweight. A victory over him now would mean nothing.

If Vitali can't get the Valuev fight he should fight the WBC mandatory Juan Carlos Gomez as he's a good fighter and has had history with the Klitschko's back in amateur days.

CHENG DU, China -- The Klitschko brothers, who hold four of the world's five heavyweight boxing _title_s, have challenged giant Russian Nikolai Valuev to a showdown for his WBA _title_.

It will be a difficult fight, but we have a dream, and we are going to make it come true, by taking the last belt for the Klitschko family.
-- Vitali Klitschko

Vitali, who last month came out of retirement to defeat Samuel Peter for the WBC crown and together with younger brother Wladimir, become the first siblings to simultaneously hold world heavyweight belts, issued the challenge Monday.

"Valuev is the biggest heavyweight champion in history. He's huge and dangerous, this won't be easy and I don't want to underestimate him," the Ukrainian said of the 7-foot champion at the WBC's annual convention.

"It will be a difficult fight, but we have a dream, and we are going to make it come true, by taking the last belt for the Klitschko family."

Vitali, having long ruled out a potential unification bout between brothers, added it did not matter whether he or IBF, IBO and WBO champion Wladimir took on the intimidating Russian.

"[This] won't amount to a dispute between close brothers," he said.

"My message to Valuev is that this isn't about size, but internal quality, so let's see who's the strongest and the best. Why not Kiev, Moscow or London? We'd have to do this in a stadium which holds thirty or forty thousand people or more."
